Pelosi says Gov. Cuomo should resign if probe finds him guilty

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Wednesday joined a growing call from Democrats that Gov. Cuomo should resign if the seven sexual harassment claims against him are substantiated.

“If these allegations are proven to be true, then zero tolerance would follow that the governor should not continue,” Pelosi said on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe.”

She added that she has “zero tolerance” for such accusations and believed Cuomo does, too.

“It’s heartbreaking,” she added, noting that the House will soon vote on the reauthorization of the Violence Against Women Act and ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment. “People have to unlearn some bad behavior in order to learn how we should go forward.”

Pelosi’s comments echo those from President Biden, who said Cuomo should step down if the investigations support claims from seven women that he sexually harassed them.

“If the investigation confirms the claims of the women, should he resign?” ABC News’ George Stephanopoulos asked Biden in an interview that aired in full on Wednesday.

“Yes, I think he’ll probably end up being prosecuted too,” he replied.

“It takes a lot of courage for a woman to come forward,” the president continued. “Some are not — anyway. It takes a lot of courage to come forward. So, the presumption is they should be taken seriously. And it should be investigated. And that’s what’s underway now.”

Biden, however, refused to say whether Cuomo should resign immediately.

Cuomo is facing mounting calls for his resignation following allegations from multiple accusers of unwanted touching, inappropriate comments and, in at least one case, groping.

He has denied the claims.

State Attorney General Tish James and the state Assembly have launched separate investigations.
