NotePlan - To-Do List & Notes 3.21.3 Mac
NotePlan is a Mac application that merges task management, plain-text notes, and calendar-based planning into a single daily workspace. Version 3.21.3 now includes Siri AI support, date-based grouping for regular folder views, and a handful of editor refinements.
Start with the daily note
The app opens to a dated note each day, where you can jot down tasks and meeting notes side by side. Anything you flag as a task rolls into a dynamic list that surfaces upcoming items without pulling you out of the note. Time blocking works directly in the note body: type a time next to a task and it appears on the integrated calendar strip, which pulls data from Apple Calendar. For longer-range thinking, the weekly, monthly, and yearly notes sit a click away, giving you a place to sketch quarterly goals or plan a month’s theme.
Try the command palette and links
Hitting the command palette—invoked with ⌘J—lets you search notes, create new ones, and run actions without touching the mouse. It is the fastest way to navigate once you have more than a handful of pages. Another feature worth exploring early is bidirectional linking: typing [[ followed by a note title creates a two-way connection, turning scattered pages into a lightweight knowledge base. The current release also brings date-based grouping to standard folder views, so notes sort themselves by creation date when you browse outside the calendar structure.
A writer’s Monday morning
Take someone who publishes three blog posts a week and tracks article ideas across a dozen scattered notes. On Monday they open the daily note, drag three half-formed topics from the previous Friday, and tag each with #writing. One idea needs research, so they create a separate note and link it back with a [[wiki link]] — now the task and the source material stay connected. The upcoming view shows only what is due today, and the calendar strip reveals a 10 a.m. interview block pulled from Apple Calendar. By lunch, everything that was floating in memory sits where the next session can find it.
Vanishing tasks traced to an active filter
New users sometimes hit a wall when tasks vanish from the sidebar. The likely culprit is an active filter: NotePlan highlights the current filter at the top of the task list, and clearing it with the small × button brings everything back. Another common stumble is typing [[ and seeing no suggestions — that usually means the target note is in a different folder and the autocomplete needs an extra letter or two before it catches up. If the calendar strip stays blank despite adding times to tasks, check that the calendar integration is enabled under settings; a restart of the app also forces a refresh of the Apple Calendar sync.
Markdown quirks that trip people up
Because NotePlan uses plain Markdown, task checklists inside a parent task need a specific syntax. Each sub-item must start on its own line with - [ ] and be indented with a tab or two spaces. Forgetting the indent merges the checklist into a single block of text. Recurring tasks also cause occasional confusion: the repetition rule — daily, weekly, or custom — lives in the task’s right-click menu, not in the Markdown itself, so editing the text alone does not change the schedule. Users searching for NotePlan - To-Do List & Notes torrent mac will find that cloud sync relies on Apple’s servers and cannot function in disconnected environments; local-only work remains fully available regardless.
NotePlan 3.21.3 introduces Siri AI support for voice-driven task entry and adds date-based grouping to regular folder views. Apple Reminders reliability sees a bump, and the update includes several sync and editor improvements.
