Privacy notice

RedTideNews keeps things simple. Most visitors never hand over any information at all. These are the few ways the site works with your data, summarized first and explained after.

  • No account, no cookies. Browsing without signing in sets zero cookies on your device.
  • Sign-in cookies. Logging in places a session cookie and a small sign-in marker cookie so the site can remember you; neither tracks you elsewhere.
  • Account data. A free account holds a display name, your email address, a hashed password, your saved favorites, your comments, and your notification preferences.
  • Server logs. Like most websites, the server notes each page request — IP address, browser type, which pages were fetched — for security and troubleshooting.
  • Comments are moderated. A comment becomes public only after review. The moderator sees the comment, your display name, the email on your account, and which page it was left on.
  • Never sold, never tracked. RedTideNews does not sell or rent any data, and runs no advertising or third-party tracking.
  • No marketing email. Notifications appear only on the site. Your email is used only for account-related messages.
  • Deleting your account. Write to the contact address and Rosa will remove your account and comments.

When no account is needed

Anyone can browse the full catalog — macOS apps, Final Cut Pro plugins, VST plugins, games and PDF tools — and read every program page and every published comment. No account is required for reading, and no cookies are set on visitors who are simply browsing.

When you sign in

Signing in to a free account sets two cookies. A session cookie keeps you signed in while you move between pages, and a sign-in marker cookie tells the site you have an account on your next visit so it can show your saved favorites and update notifications. Both cookies are small and contain no personal information. No advertising or tracking cookies are used anywhere on the site.

What the account stores

Opening an account asks for a display name and an email address, along with a password stored only as a hash. Once signed in you can save programs to a favorites list, leave comments, and receive on-site notifications when a saved program gets a new version. The account keeps those favorites, your comments, and your notification settings.

Server logs

The web server keeps ordinary access logs — IP address, browser identifier, pages requested, and the time of each request. These logs are reviewed only when there is a security concern or a technical problem to trace. No log data is matched with accounts for marketing or profiling.

Comments and moderation

Every comment left on a program page goes into a moderation queue. The person reviewing the queue — Rosa, who runs the site — sees the full comment, the display name, the email address on the account, and the program page it was left on. The author sees their own post marked “awaiting moderation” until approved. Once approved, only the display name and comment text appear publicly. Comments stay on the page unless the author asks for removal.

What RedTideNews does not do

RedTideNews does not sell, rent, or trade any reader data. It does not embed advertising trackers, social-media widgets that collect data, or third-party analytics. No marketing emails or newsletters are sent. The only on-site messages tied to an account are update notifications for programs you have saved.

Children's information

The site is a catalog of Mac software written for a general audience. It is not aimed at children, and no features are designed to collect information from anyone under the age their jurisdiction sets for digital consent. If Rosa learns a person under that age has provided information without verifiable parental consent, the account and its data will be deleted.

Deleting your account

An account and all its stored information — display name, email, hashed password, favorites list, comments, and notification settings — can be removed by writing to [email protected]. Rosa will confirm the request and then delete the account. Unless you ask otherwise, published comments will be removed along with the account.
