PopClip 2026.8.1 fix EDiSO Mac
PopClip 2026.8.1 arrived September 7 as a maintenance and cleanup release following PopClip 2026.7. No headline features this time around — just tightening after the previous build.
Check requirements first
PopClip runs on any Mac with macOS 13.5 Ventura or later and an Apple Silicon or 64-bit Intel processor. If your machine clears that bar, the app supports it.
Extend text selection
Select text and PopClip offers contextual actions: open a URL, email address, or file path, or pull up spelling corrections for a misspelled word. Extensions can send selected text to Evernote and other destinations.
Keep Macs in sync
Installed extensions, action layout, and action settings sync between Macs through iCloud. The app works with most Mac applications, though not every one accepts its actions.
It won't appear for keyboard selections
Does it get in the way during normal work? PopClip appears only when you select text with the mouse or trackpad. Click anywhere else and it vanishes. It does not pop up for keyboard selections — a deliberate choice that keeps it out of the way when you shift-select in a code editor or hold down arrow keys.
Will it slow down the system? The app is lean. After launch it idles in the background and wakes up only when the system reports a text selection. The maintenance release cleaned up some behind-the-scenes logs and caches that had grown since PopClip 2026.7, so the current build runs slightly trimmer than its predecessor.
What about privacy? PopClip processes selected text locally to figure out which actions to show — no text leaves the machine unless you tap an action that sends it somewhere, like a web search or an Evernote extension. The app does not phone home with your clipboard contents.
Can I install it on a work Mac where I do not have admin rights? The zip download unpacks to a standard app bundle. Dragging it into your home Applications folder works fine; the app does not require a system-level installer or kernel extension.
A session with PopClip, minute by minute
You open a draft in your email client. A client name is misspelled in the second paragraph. You double-click the word, and PopClip appears above it with three spelling suggestions. You tap the correct one, and the word fixes itself without a right-click menu or a trip to the Edit menu.
A few lines down, a tracking number sits in plain text. You select it, and PopClip shows a “Search Google” action. You tap it. Your default browser opens with the results. No copy, no new tab shortcut, no pasting.
Later you are cleaning up meeting notes in a plain text file. You select a file path you pasted earlier — one that points to a shared PDF on the company server. PopClip offers to open it. You tap the action, and Preview launches with the file. The path had extra spaces around it; PopClip trimmed them automatically before passing the path to the system.
Before wrapping up, you highlight a paragraph of legal text and run the word-count extension you installed months ago. The count pops up in a small overlay. You close it and move on.
Actions surface faster than the Services menu
Compared with the system’s built-in Services menu, PopClip surfaces actions faster — no secondary click, no submenu to navigate, no hunting through a list that mixes system actions with third-party additions. The Services menu still handles more complex workflows, but for the handful of things you do dozens of times a day, PopClip shaves off the extra steps.
TextExpander overlaps with PopClip in the snippet-expansion space, though PopClip does not compete directly on abbreviation expansion. Where TextExpander replaces typed shortcuts with longer text, PopClip acts on text already on screen. The two can coexist: type a snippet, select the result, and PopClip offers the next move — search, share, or format.
Keyboard Maestro can trigger macros from a text selection, but it requires building the triggers yourself. PopClip ships with actions ready to go and more than 100 free extensions that cover everyday needs without scripting. For people who want context-aware actions without assembling a macro library, PopClip fills the gap that a power-user automation tool leaves open.
PopClip 2026.8.1 is a maintenance and cleanup release following PopClip 2026.7. It shipped on September 7, 2026.
