Find a build that survives the wave

Each run drops you into a hand-drawn dark fantasy arena where waves of monsters crash in from all sides. You collect loot mid-fight and swap equipment on the fly, so the character you finish with rarely looks like the one who started. New weapons and armor change your appearance immediately.

Shape your character through gear

There are no fixed classes. Damage type, attack speed and special traits come from the sword, bow or staff in your hand and the armor on your back. Stacking synergies between pieces is the difference between a clean extraction and an early grave.

Learn what each run teaches you

The game released into Early Access in May 2025, so systems and balance are still evolving. Runs stay short and sharp, pushing you to test new combinations against increasingly chaotic enemy packs.

Tackle an early-game run from zero

Start by clearing the first two monster packs with the basic sword — don't burn any upgrades yet. Grab every piece of loot that drops, even gray-quality items, because selling them at the mid-run merchant funds a crucial weapon swap. By wave four you want a bow or staff with at least one elemental affix; lightning works well against the shielded brutes that show up around wave five. Hold your movement skill until the wave announcement sound triggers, then dash through the densest cluster to thin the pack before they spread out. Save health pickups for after wave seven, when poison-spitting enemies start appearing from opposite corners.

Gaming Focus silences alerts during a run

The game runs as a standard standalone app and plays nicely with macOS focus modes — turn on Gaming Focus and notifications won't interrupt a run. It picks up whatever audio output you have set in Control Center, so switching between Mac speakers and Bluetooth headphones mid-session works without a restart. For streamers or clip-savers, the built-in Game Recording feature on macOS Tahoe captures footage at full frame rate through the system overlay; the app doesn't block it. If you use a controller, pair it before launching — the game detects most Bluetooth gamepads on the title screen but won't hot-swap during a run.

Three common snags and their fixes

  • Game won't launch after dragging to Applications. This usually means Gatekeeper blocked the unsigned bundle. Right-click the app in Finder and choose Open, then confirm the dialog. You only need to do it once. Some setups may also require a trip to Privacy & Security in System Settings to allow it.
  • Stuttering during heavy waves. On Intel Macs with integrated graphics, drop the resolution scaling in the in-game video settings to 75%. The hand-drawn assets still look crisp, and frame timing stabilizes when thirty mobs are on screen. Apple Silicon machines handle native resolution without issue.
  • Controller not recognized. Unpair and re-pair the device while the game sits on the title screen, then press any button. If it still doesn't register, toggle the controller's input mode switch — some third-party pads default to a profile the game doesn't read until you flip them to a standard layout.

Players hunting the Tower of Babel: Survivors of Chaos torrent for Mac scene sometimes find a build where save progress vanishes between sessions. The version 1.12.2 fixed release resolves that entirely — no workarounds needed.
