Version 2.4.6 unifies UI styling in PinnedView, improves alias-tag and image previews, and fixes paste-stack behaviour under macOS 26. For newcomers, a few first moves make the utility click.

Main panel — The default clipboard list. Press the global shortcut to open it anywhere; items stay ordered by copy time unless you pin them.

Paste stack — Copy several things, then press Command-Shift-C to split multiple lines into separate stack entries. Hold the number key that matches an item’s index to paste it directly without opening the menu.

Smart lists — These filters can show only text, images, or content copied from the frontmost app. A newcomer can create a “Design tools” list that shows copies from Sketch and Figma automatically.

Bookmarks — Unlimited saved clips that survive history clearing. Drag a frequently used snippet or code block into the bookmark list for permanent access.

Quick menu at cursor — The menu can open right at the text-input position instead of the centre of the screen, keeping your eyes near the work.

Forgetting the timeline means sensitive text stays in history

Treating CleanClip like the system clipboard is the most common misstep. The system holds one item; CleanClip holds a running timeline. New users often copy something, forget it is saved, then panic when a sensitive note appears in the history panel. The fix is not avoiding the app — it is learning to use the delete key on any item row when you want it gone.

Another early habit: ignoring the paste stack altogether. People copy three lines of an address one by one, then paste them individually into a web form. Command-Shift-C turns that into a single copy-and-paste cycle. The lines split into stack entries, and tapping the number keys drops them in order. Once that muscle memory forms, form filling feels like a different task.

Smart lists also get overlooked. A designer who copies hex codes, layer names and Slack messages throughout the day will see one noisy history. Creating a smart list filtered to show only the design app removes the noise without deleting anything. The history is still there — the view just narrows to what matters right now.

Pinned items now look identical in every panel and menu

The PinnedView styling unification means pinned items now look consistent regardless of where they appear — in the main panel, in smart lists, or in the quick menu. Before the fix, a pinned URL might render with different spacing depending on the view, which made scanning slower. Now the visual treatment is predictable.

Alias-tag and image preview improvements address a small but frequent friction. When a clip carried an alias tag — common when using cleanclip macos workflows that rename items — the preview text could truncate in ways that hid the tag entirely. The 2.4.6 update surfaces those tags properly, so you know what a clip is before pasting it. Image previews got the same attention: thumbnails in the history list no longer stretch or crop in odd ways.

The macOS 26 fixes are pragmatic. Paste-stack animations in QuickMenu could stall under the new OS; the update removes those glitches. If you rely on the stack for sequential pasting, the difference is immediate — no missed keystrokes when the animation hangs.

Swap the default shortcut to a two-hand chord you won’t clash with

The global shortcut deserves immediate attention. The default works, but a two-hand chord like Control-Option-V sits out of the way of common app shortcuts. Set it once, then forget about it.

Turning on the frontmost-app smart list by default saves a click. With this active, opening cleanclip mac shows only what you copied in the current application. The full history is a single click away, but the default view stays relevant.

Paste format presets are the third change worth making early. If you regularly paste as plain text — stripping font sizes and colours from copied web content — assign a preset so holding a number key pastes without formatting. The option lives in the formats pane, and setting it once prevents a lot of manual cleanup later.
