A lot of shooters promise freedom but hand you a corridor. Metro Exodus solves that problem by dropping you into large nonlinear levels where the route is yours to choose, though the world itself rarely forgives a wrong turn. The game follows Artyom and the Sparta order as they leave the Moscow metro and travel across post-apocalyptic Russia, a journey inspired by Dmitry Glukhovsky's novels.

Ammo is scarce and enemies hit hard

Players who like first-person combat mixed with exploration and survival horror will find a lot to like. Ammo is scarce, enemies are dangerous, and the game asks you to read a room before you act. It continues the Metro series, so returning fans get more of the atmosphere they already know.

Run-and-gun players will hit a wall

Anyone expecting a run-and-gun shooter will struggle. The pace is deliberate, and resource management can feel punishing.

  1. Open the downloaded disk image.
  2. Drag the game to the Applications folder alias.
  3. Launch the game from Launchpad after copying finishes.

The Mac version was officially released on April 14, 2021, and the Russian download page lists voice acting in Russian, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Ukrainian, French, and Japanese.

Open terrain reshapes the survival pressure

Next to BioShock Remastered, the difference comes down to movement. BioShock builds its tension inside enclosed spaces with scripted encounters, while Metro Exodus pushes the same survival pressure across open terrain. Both lean on atmosphere and weapon customization, but Metro Exodus gives you more room to approach an outpost from multiple angles before the shooting starts.

Dying Light shares the day-night rhythm and the scavenging loop, though its parkour and melee focus make combat feel faster and more physical. Metro Exodus is heavier on its feet: you crouch, check your filters, count rounds, and listen. Where Dying Light rewards improvisation and movement, Metro Exodus rewards patience and preparation.

S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl is the closest cousin in tone, with its irradiated zones and human enemies who act on their own schedules. Metro Exodus narrows that scope into a story-driven campaign, trading some of the systemic chaos for tighter direction and stronger character beats.

Finding a railcar becomes a slow crawl

A player coming off story-driven action games might start the Volga chapter expecting markers to guide every step. Instead, the map opens up, and a simple task — finding a railcar for the Aurora — turns into a slow crawl through flooded villages, abandoned churches, and bandit camps that change behavior between day and night. That same player learns to visit workbenches before leaving a safe house, to swap weapon mods for the terrain, and to keep the flashlight charged without drawing every mutant in the marsh. By the time the chapter closes, the game has taught its own rules: explore wide, fight narrow, and listen before you move.

Intel Macs are covered, M1 tested

Does the Mac version run on Intel machines? The Russian download page lists the architecture as x86 (64-bit), so Intel Macs are covered, and the listing also shows the game tested on an M1 MacBook Air from 2020 running macOS Sequoia.

Is this a port or a native release? The Mac version was released as a native port, not a wrapped PC build, and it arrived on April 14, 2021.

Can I play in languages other than English? The interface supports Russian, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Korean, Polish, Portuguese, Ukrainian, French, Czech, and Japanese. Voice acting covers Russian, English, German, Spanish, Italian, Ukrainian, French, and Japanese.

Do I need to be online? The game plays as a single-player campaign, so no account checks or persistent connection are required after the files are in place. Players searching for a Metro Exodus Mac download or a Metro Exodus torrent will find the game installs cleanly by dragging it to Applications — the steps are the same no matter which language you play in.
