Waves Ultimate is the largest single collection available through Waves Creative Access, bundling more than 230 plugins for mixing, mastering and sound design.

Plugin count — over 230, according to Waves Audio. The official product page puts the figure above 240.

Categories covered — vocal processing, analog console emulations, mastering chains, compressors, equalizers, multi-effects, virtual instruments, saturation, artist signature processors, channel strips and AI-driven noise reduction.

Host compatibility — VST, Audio Units and AAX formats. The suite runs on Apple Silicon natively and on Intel 64-bit Macs.

StudioVerse integration — a searchable library of thousands of mixing chains, accessible directly inside any supported DAW.

What v17-26.09.22 changed in daily work

Plugin scans finish faster on Apple Silicon Macs, cutting the wait when a DAW validates new installations. Several users reported that the AU Reg Utility step, still mandatory for Audio Units to leave demo mode, now completes without the occasional hang that plagued earlier v14 builds.

The most visible shift is StudioVerse loading speed. Browsing chains and auditioning presets feels snappier, especially on machines with less than 16 GB of RAM. One change that trips up returning users: Waves Central now defaults to a different folder layout if it detects a fresh install, so anyone moving from an older version should double-check plugin paths before launching Logic or Ableton Live.

Terminal-launched troubleshooting remains an option. When the graphical installer stalls on a permission error, launching Waves Central from Terminal—detailed in the included instructions—bypasses the hang and lets registration finish. It is not a step most people will need, but it is there for the edge cases.

A post-production editor’s afternoon

Consider a dialogue editor cleaning up location audio for a documentary. The raw clips arrived with intermittent traffic hum and a lavalier mic that picked up clothing rustle every time the subject turned her head. The editor drops an instance of Clarity Vx on the dialogue bus to strip the background drone, then chains it into WNS Noise Suppressor for the remaining low-end rumble. A quick search in StudioVerse pulls up a chain labelled “Dialogue Rescue – Noisy Lav,” which layers an SSL G-Channel for gating and gentle compression and adds a touch of RVox to even out the levels. What would have taken forty minutes of manual tweaking is down to ten, and the editor sends a rough mix to the director before lunch.

Mistakes newcomers make

The most common error is skipping the AU Reg Utility after installation. Without it, every Audio Units plug-in runs in demo mode—periodic silence, no recall of settings—and the DAW gives no obvious warning until playback drops out mid-session. The fix is quick but easy to overlook during a late-night setup.

Another misstep: loading a mastering-grade linear-phase EQ on every track because it is included in the bundle. The CPU hit adds up fast, and beginners blame the software rather than their own routing. A character EQ or the Renaissance series channels will handle ninety percent of mixing tasks without taxing the system.

Finally, extracting the split archives incorrectly causes confusing “file incomplete” errors. All parts must sit in the same folder, and only the .001 file should be opened with Keka. Dragging individual parts or double-clicking the wrong one starts a cascade of extraction failures that look like a bad download but are really just a skipped instruction.
