Version 1.2.1 of the Game of the Year Edition fixes the complete package, which bundles all post-launch content. The Mac version, published by Feral Interactive, lets you patrol a sprawling open-world Arkham City that is much larger than the Asylum before it. What follows is a look at the concrete, minute-to-minute actions you perform as the two lead characters.

  • Glide and dive across the skyline, pulling up at the last moment to gain speed and clear wide streets in a single arc.
  • Invert a thug from a stone gargoyle, leaving him hanging as his panicked squad scatters below.
  • Trigger Detective Vision to track armed patrol routes, highlight structural weaknesses, and plan a silent takedown sequence.
  • Whip through a predator room as Catwoman, chaining acrobatic strikes from floor to ceiling without touching the ground.
  • Counter three simultaneous attacks in a flowing combo, then instantly deploy a smoke pellet to vanish.

Batman's approach is methodical: he dissects a room of armed enemies, isolating stragglers and using gadgets to create fear. Catwoman relies mainly on instincts and agility, trading heavy armor for rapid, fluid motion. The edition also includes Robin, Nightwing, Harley Quinn's Revenge, seven maps, and 12 skins.

What the Latest Fix Changed in Everyday Play

Version 1.2.1 fixed does not add new characters or maps; it stabilizes what was already there. The most visible change for anyone who played earlier Mac builds is that the Harley Quinn's Revenge epilogue no longer hangs during the steel-mill loading screen. Before the fix, that freeze was reproducible—walk into the mill after the opening brawl and the spinner would lock. Now the transition completes, which means you can actually finish the DLC campaign without restarting.

Less obvious, but more frequent, is the correction to predator-map collision on the Iceberg Lounge challenge. In 1.2.1, wall-mounted gargoyles register grapple prompts consistently, even when Catwoman approaches them from the upper skylight. This mattered because speed-run rankings on the leaderboards counted every missed latch against the final time. Another quiet fix: the Russian localization no longer truncates objective text in the detective-mode overlay, which previously cut the last line of mission briefs on 1440p displays.

Punching inmates on the street gets you killed from three directions

New players tend to treat Arkham City like a brawler. They land on the street, throw punches at the first cluster of inmates, and get shot from three directions. The game punishes that approach hard during the first hour. A better instinct is to stay above eye level whenever firearms are present. One of the earliest predator rooms—the courthouse after the Two-Face intro—teaches this gently, but the lesson doesn't stick with everyone.

Another common error is ignoring the quickfire gadget shortcuts. Holding L1 and tapping R2 throws a batarang mid-combo; beginners pause, open the weapon wheel, select the batarang, aim, and lose their combo multiplier. The same goes for the smoke pellet, which the edition added to Batman's loadout. Dropping smoke the moment a shield-baton enemy steps into the crowd breaks their attack chain and keeps your freeflow streak alive. Waiting a beat too long gets you knocked down.

Catwoman players often forget she cannot glide. Climbing a fire escape and leaping off expecting a cape-swoop ends with a whip-crack and a short vault. Her traversal is vertical—ceilings, ledges, corner-posts—not horizontal. Learning to look up for perch points instead of out across the skyline changes how you read every exterior space.

Bruce Wayne in handcuffs while Strange’s voice echoes over the PA

You mount the disk image and drag the app into Applications, then launch it from the Dock on a quiet evening. The intro plays: Bruce Wayne is marched into Arkham City, handcuffed, while Hugo Strange's voice echoes over the PA. By the time the title card fades you've already thrown the first punch.

Twenty minutes in, you're standing on a rooftop in the Bowery. Below, five political prisoners cluster around a burning barrel. You dive, cape spread, and knock two down immediately. The third swings a pipe; you counter, vault over his back, and hit the fourth with a batarang. The fifth runs, and you grapple-gun to a ledge to cut him off. It's a clean sequence—no hits taken, combo meter still climbing.

Later, you switch to Catwoman for a predator challenge. The room is a two-story museum wing with three armed guards on patrol and two more on a balcony. You crawl across the ceiling, drop onto a display case, and whip a guard off his feet. Before his partner turns, you're already back on the ceiling, three meters away, watching him panic. The smoke grenade lands at his feet. He coughs, staggers, and you pounce.
