Outlanders 2 22 Mac
Outlanders 2 is the sequel to Pomelo Games' town-building strategy title, released on July 3, 2024 as an Apple Arcade launch title. It doubles the resource types and building options of the original across a 21-level campaign and a challenge mode that rotates every two weeks.
macOS 11+ on M4 runs big settlements smoothly
The game requires macOS 11.0 or later and runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. Testing on a Mac mini 2024 M4 with macOS Tahoe produced smooth performance during larger settlements, according to Pomelo Games.
Point-and-click layout with drag-and-drop focus
Interface scaling matches Apple's Human Interface Guidelines, and the point-and-click town management translates directly to a mouse or trackpad. Keyboard shortcuts are minimal, keeping the focus on drag-and-drop layout decisions rather than hotkey memorization.
What content comes with the initial release?
The campaign delivers 21 handcrafted levels with intertwined leader stories, while the challenge mode introduces a fresh scenario every two weeks. Two new biomes — Tropics and Winterlands — join the rotation, each altering crop cycles and building efficiency in different ways.
A town start in the Winterlands: a walkthrough
The first Winterlands mission drops you into a frostbitten clearing with fourteen settlers, a single bonfire, and a stack of raw potatoes. No trees bear fruit here, so you begin by laying a forager's hut near the sparse bushes along the eastern ridge. Drop a stockpile beside it immediately — villagers spend less time hauling when storage sits adjacent to collection points. Split three workers to chopping deadwood while two clear rocks; you will want a lumber camp up before the first night hits, because freezing winds arrive fast and unprotected settlers stop working.
By day three you should have a sawmill processing logs into planks. Winterlands soil allows potato farming only on thawed patches, marked by muddy ground near the river. Use the terrain overlay toggle (press G) to spot them. A common mistake is building housing too early — shelters without a heat source drain morale faster than letting workers sleep by the central fire. Place a stone road from the stockpile to the construction zone and you shave a third off the build time for your first windmill.
Option-click rotates any foundation through all orientations
Several workflow shortcuts stay hidden until you stumble across them. Drag a building's foundation outline, then hold Option while clicking to rotate through all four orientations without reselecting the structure from the menu — useful for squeezing a bakery between two granaries. Double-clicking any completed building selects every instance of that type on the map, letting you pause or prioritize them as a group during a sudden storm. In challenge mode, the bi-weekly timer pauses only when the game window loses focus, so switching to Finder mid-session stops the clock without a manual menu dive.
The resource ledger, opened with L, tracks production versus consumption over the last eight in-game days. A red arrow next to planks means your sawmill is outrunning your lumber camp, and you can reassign workers before shortages cascade. On small MacBook displays, the default UI scale hides the minimap's warmth overlay; pinch-to-zoom on a trackpad expands it instantly, revealing cold pockets you would otherwise miss. Those frost zones explain why settlers sometimes abandon assigned tasks — they are not glitching, they are fleeing hypothermia.
Version 22 shipped the initial release in July 2024, delivering a 21-level campaign, a biweekly challenge mode, and two new biomes: Tropics and Winterlands.
